Size of the finished tidy all: 31 cm x 38 cm

How to prepare the cross-stitch part

Once the cross-stitch part is finished, centre the motif in a rectangle, part A,  measuring 33 cm x 16 cm, and overcast all round the edge by machine (see diagram).

How to prepare the backing

Cut a rectangle B, measuring 14 cm x 31 cm, out of the backing fabric (see diagram).

How to mount the cross-stitch part

Place part B at the back of part A, leaving a margin of 1 cm all round, then apply the backing fabric with the help of an iron (see diagram).

How to cut part C

Cut a rectangle, measuring 33 cm x 29 cm, out of the orange ottoman fabric.
Overcast all round the edge of part C (see diagram).

How to assemble the cross-stitch motif

Place part A (the cross-stitch motif), with part B on top of it, over part C, making sure that the motifs are in the direction indicated by the arrow so that when you turn out part A, the motifs will be on the right side. Match the centres, pin and machine sew along the 33 cm width 1 cm from the edge (see diagram).

How to arrange the parts forming the front

Iron the back to open the seam you have just sewn (see diagram).
You will obtain two assembled pieces C and A forming the front.

How to prepare the parts forming the back

Cut two rectangles D - D', measuring 33 cm x  40 cm, out of the green ottoman fabric and overcast the edge of each piece (see diagram).

How to sew the bottom of the back

Leave the A and C parts open, the cross-stitch motifs on the face.
Take piece D and place it in such a way that it completely covers part A and 5 cm of part C (see diagram). Pin and sew all along the width 1 cm from the edge of part D, as indicated on the diagram.

How to place the back

Fold part D over part C, as indicated on the diagram.
The result will be an orange band of 4 cm and then the cross-stitch part A with the motifs upside down.

How to place the pieces forming the front of the tidy all

Turn the work out in such a way that part D is at the back
Fold part C over part D so that the joining seam sewn at stage 8 is placed at the bottom between these two pieces of fabric.
Position parts C and A, as indicated in the diagram, to obtain an orange base of 4 cm, with the cross-stitch part A folded over part C.  In this way, the cross-stitch motifs appear on the front, with 5 cm of part C protruding above.

How to finish the first stage of the front pocket flap

Leave part D in abeyance.
Work at the top of part A, fold a 1 cm pleat over the front (see diagram) and flatten this pleat with an iron.

How to finish the second stage of the front pocket flap

Continue working on the front, still leaving part D in abeyance.
Fold another pleat at the top, this time of 4 cm, over the front (see diagram).
Flatten this pleat with an iron and machine sew a straight seam 4 mm from the edge of each pleat to obtain a 4 cm border to cover the top of part A.
The cross-stitch part is caught between two layers of the orange ottoman fabric.
Iron the tidy all.

How to prepare the ribbon and place it with the buttons

Take a 40 cm length of satin ribbon and cut the end diagonally.  Thread it through the 1st violet button, passing it from underneath towards the top, and again through the second hole from the top towards the bottom.
Repeat the same operation with the green and red buttons, one after the other.  Slide the buttons so that they are evenly spread over a length of 33 cm, with the green button marking the centre.

Leave part D in abeyance.
At the top of the turn-down you have made in the previous stage, make a reference point with a felt-tip pen 2 cm from the top, and draw a line along the full 33 cm width.  This line will serve as a guide to place the yellow satin ribbon with the buttons. Apply some fabric glue along this line, making sure not to put too much.  Stick the ribbon and leave to dry for a minimum of 4 hours (see diagram). The result is a border with a decorative ribbon centred between the two border seams previously sewn.
Finish by making two stitches with the yellow thread in the holes of each button to hold them in place and fasten off the threads at the back.

How to place the pocket

Machine sew a seam on each side of parts A and C, 5 mm from the edge and 23 cm high (see diagram).

How to prepare the straps

Cut a band 42 cm long and 4 cm wide out of the green ottoman fabric (see diagram).
Pleat this band in two along its length and flatten with an iron.
Fold over about 5 mm over the inside on each side, and flatten the pleats with an iron.
Pleat the band again in two along its length to obtain a width of 2 cm.  Baste along the length, centre the yellow satin ribbon and then stitch each side of the ribbon through the thickness of the band.
Finish by cutting 3 strips 14 cm long from the band you have just made.

How to fix the straps

Pleat each strap you have just made flat so that the satin ribbon is on the same side.  The result is a triangle at the level of the pleating at the top of the strap. Place a strap in the middle of the width at the top of part D and a strap on each side, 5 cm from the edge, as indicated on the diagram.  The satin ribbon is placed against part D so that it is visible when you turn the straps right way out.
Pin and then fix the straps along the width of each of them over part D by sewing forwards and backwards with a machine 5 mm from the edge.
Pin the straps flat on part D so that they remain in place at the end of the assembly.

How to sew the lining

Take the ottoman fabric D' and place it on the face of the tidy all, pin the sides and the top.
Start by machine sewing the top seam 1 cm from the edge. In this way, the straps are caught between the two pieces of fabric DD'.
Sew the seams on each side 1 cm from the edge.
Fold over the 1 cm hem exceeding the bottom of the lining and then mark the pleat with an iron.  Baste along its 33 cm width. Hollow out the top corners to avoid excessive thickness, as indicated on the diagram.

How to finish the bottom of the tidy all

Turn the tidy all the right side out.
Remove the pins used to hold the straps when mounting.
Push the upper corners inside the tidy all until the outside looks neat.
Iron the tidy all on the face to give it the right shape
Carefully place the opening at the bottom, edge to edge, of parts C and D'
Pin and then sew by hand, making invisible overcast stitches along a width of 31 cm (see diagram).
Iron the tidy all flat.
