How to Use Iron-on Transfers

DMC's design Transfers are printed with a special, permanent ink that works on light and most dark fabrics. The designs are reversed on the transfer paper, but will appear correctly when ironed onto your garment. The transfers can be used more than once, although the color will lighten after each use. Transfers can be applied to most natural fabrics – poly-cotton blends work best. Avoid synthetic fabrics and silks. Pre-wash your garment to remove sizing and prevent shrinkage or puckering later.

1.  Cut out the transfer design and place it securely, printed side down, on the right side of fabric.

2.  Pre-heat your iron to the Wool/Cotton setting. Do not use steam.

3.  Simply press over the transfer, moving iron in a circular motion. Hold for 5 seconds for light colored fabrics, up to 12 seconds for dark fabrics.

4.  Stitch over transferred design with DMC Pearl Cotton size 5 or Embroidery Floss.

Creating Words

In order to create a word from transfers, cut out each letter in the word and arrange them where you would like to stitch on the fabric. It is helpful if you then remove all, except the first letter, and iron on each letter one at a time.
